I am trying to find information on Driscoll family that lived on Penmoyle Terrace in Tidenham from 1850’s to 1880’s. They would have been Catholic. Any suggestions would help. Thank You J Kelly
My name is Natalie Hunt I’m a researcher for Tern TV involved in making a factual television programme about the River Severn. In our programme we are looking into the history of the Aust to Beachley ferry crossing. It has been unavoidable to notice that this crossing has a history of being very dangerous given the Severn’s natural temperament. We have come across mention on the Newport Past website of the Monmouthshire Merlin’s report in 1844 of the wreck of a boat called ‘the Dispatch’ near the ferry crossing and additionally the ‘Jane’ or the ‘Old Passage Boat’ in 1839. We are wanting to find out more about the events and if there is any further record of the victims. If you possess any local knowledge of these events your assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Hi Natalie,
I just came across your post regarding the Severn ferry Dispatch.
I would be interested to hear of any info you may have on the whereabouts of the graves (if any) of the members of the Whitchurch family that perished in the two sinkings. They were family members on my mother’s side.
Best regards, John Sartain.
Good Morning,
Would it be possible to purchase the following to add to our collection here at The National Library of Wales :
The churches and chapels of the parish of Tidenham: Their history and architecture
Many Thanks,
